This artwork showcases two striped bulbuls perched amidst snow-covered pine branches, rendered with detailed hand-coloring and fine line work characteristic of the artist. Sugakudo was known for his depictions of birds and flowers (kacho-ga) in the Edo period. The piece measures 13 1/4 inches high, 8 3/4 inches wide, and has minor fading along with backing. This is an exquisite example of mid-19th century Japanese art.
