This is an original 19th-century Japanese woodblock print by the renowned artist Utagawa Kunisada, signing as Toyokuni III (1786-1865). The print depicts a kabuki actor, likely Bandō Hikosaburō V, in the role of the famous samurai leader Ōboshi Yuranosuke from the epic tale 'Kanadehon Chūshingura' (The Treasury of Loyal Retainers). Measurements: 9 1/2 x 13 3/4 inches. The print is in fair antique condition with minor worming, toning, trimming and staining. It also features lacquer highlights in the black areas of the costume.
