Mizuno Toshikata (1866-1908) was a favored student of Tsukioka Yoshitoshi and widely recognized for his historical paintings and illustrations. The Thirty-six Selected Beauties series, issued from 1891 to 1894, portrays women from different periods during the Edo and earlier eras. The print measures 9 3/4 inches wide by 14 inches high and exhibits foxing and backing. This artwork provides a glimpse into traditional Japanese aesthetics and history.
