Original woodblock print created by Toshikata (1866 - 1908) titled A Shop: Woman of the Kosho Era, part of the series Thirty-six Selected Beauties (Sanjuroku Kasen) published between 1891 and 1894. Toshikata was a prominent Japanese artist known for his contributions to woodblock printing as well as traditional painting. His works often depicted beautiful women, cultural scenes, and historical references, earning him a notable position in the Meiji era art world. This print showcases a scene from the Kosho era (1455 - 1457) with exquisite detail in the garments and surroundings. The piece measures 9 3/4 inches wide by 14 inches high and shows evidence of foxing and backing, indicative of its age.
